This project involved internal alterations and a new rear extension to a beautiful semi-detached period property. The original building dates from the early 1900s and we had originally extended and altered the property when the client first purchased it back in 2011. This time around we have completely redesigned the floor plans at both ground and first floor, relocating the staircase in the process.
The rear extension houses a new open plan kitchen and living area looking out onto the rear garden. This space also benefits from amazing design features such as painted internal brickwork and exposed electrical conduit giving the extension a largely industrial feel.
The original layout of the downstairs was revamped, turning what was once the kitchen into a new utility room with separate toilet and relocating the staircase to the side wall allowing better access to first floor whilst also allowing for an additional stair leading up to a possible loft conversion at a later date.
The exterior finishes of the new extension are what really sets this design off, with an amazing contrast of traditional and modern materials which enhance the buildings original qualities perfectly. We opted for a traditional brick finish to match the front of the original property but with a parapet flat roof and large roof light above. However, what really brings everything together are the black steel framed windows and doors to the rear, constructed and supplied by Fabco Sanctuary (http://fabcosanctuary.com). They provide a perfect blend of modern design coupled with older construction methods.
